I read the book Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky and researched the "Propaganda Model" which suggests that those who fund and own the media conglomerates have control over what the media reports on, and how it does so. I applied this to how the mainstream news treated the Minneapolis protests in response to a police officer's killing of George Floyd. I read articles from different sources like Washington Post, Fox News, and the New York Times and then wrote my own article where I used a right-wing bias to report on the Minneapolis protests if written around the time they were happening. For art I created a text-based art piece using charcoal and stencils, where I chose words I felt were representative of how the media covered the protests.

Article Notes
Manufacturing Consent talks about the "Propaganda Model” which describes how mass media, along with their other functions, serves to propagandize for the powerful institutions that control and finance them. The book notes that most of the global media’s “news” attention goes to events that provide sensationalism. I took a look at a few articles in the mainstream media that were written about the Minneapolis Protests when they were going on. I took notes on how they reported on it and how their bias is shown.
My Biased Article
I took what I learned from reading the other media articles to make my own, and I wrote an article with a right-wing bias.

Brief Overview
I read multiple articles on the Minneapolis Protests and watched some interviews with the protesters by All Gas No Brakes in order to understand different perspectives on the matter. I decided on using the words "Looting" and "Rioting" in order to convey how the media often reported on the protests.
